Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Belarus. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Belarusian immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Belarus
Immigration officers at Minsk National Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within the 30-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a notarized invitation letter from your host in Belarus. Officers occasionally ask for this at passport control, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means for your stay
Have evidence of sufficient funds — at least €50 per day of your stay, or a bank statement showing you can cover your expenses. Belarusian border guards rarely check this for short visits, but it's wise to have it ready.Recommended
Airport entry only — no land borders
The visa-free scheme for Australians only works when you fly into Minsk National Airport (MSQ). You cannot enter by train, bus, or car from any neighbouring country. If you arrive overland, you will be refused entry and may be fined.
30-day stay is not extendable
You cannot extend your visa-free stay under any circumstances. Plan your trip so you leave within 30 days. Overstaying carries serious consequences including fines and a ban on re-entry.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Minsk National Airport (MSQ)
You must enter Belarus through MSQ. Overland crossings from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, or Latvia are not allowed under the visa-free scheme. The airport has clear signage in English and Russian.
2
Queue at passport control
Join the line for foreign passports. Have your passport, return ticket (digital or printed), and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and intended length of stay.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. Check the stamp is correct before stepping away. The 30-day countdown starts from this date.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There are no additional forms to fill for visa-free entry. Exit through the green channel if you have nothing to declare.
