Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Cameroon eVisa at least 2 weeks before departure. The online form asks for passport details, travel dates, and a digital photo. Pay the fee online — approval takes 3 to 7 working days.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Australian passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your departure date from Cameroon. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Yaoundé and Douala airports routinely ask for a printed or digital onward ticket. Without one, you risk being refused entry and placed on the next flight out.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Officers occasionally ask where you are staying — a printed booking removes any doubt.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 500,000 XAF (about 1,250 AUD). Immigration may ask how you will fund your trip.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
You must have a yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) to enter Cameroon. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (and pay a fee). Get the shot at least 10 days before you fly.
eVisa processing times vary
Standard eVisa processing takes 3–5 business days, but it can take longer during peak periods. Apply at least two weeks before your trip to avoid last-minute stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Cameroon eVisa portal. Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $80–$120 depending on processing speed). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Print a paper copy of the eVisa and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Have your passport, eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready. At check-in, the airline may ask to see your eVisa. Keep everything in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at Yaoundé or Douala airport
Most flights arrive at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport or Douala International Airport. Follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport. This usually takes 5–10 minutes.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. You may be asked to show your customs declaration form (if any). Then exit into the arrivals hall.
