Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Singapore
Your Australian passport needs at least 6 months validity beyond your departure date from Singapore. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration may ask for proof of onward travel
Singapore immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at arrival. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they will check the date matches your intended stay.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host's address
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or the address and contact of your host. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least 1,000 SGD (or equivalent in AUD) for short visits. Immigration rarely asks, but if you cannot show funds, they may deny entry.Recommended
SG Arrival Card — you must do this
All visitors must submit the SG Arrival Card online within 3 days before arrival. It is a mandatory digital form, not a paper declaration. Don't skip it — you'll be directed to do it at the airport otherwise, causing delay.
Automated e-gates available
Australian ePassport holders can use the automated clearance lanes at Changi Airport (and other checkpoints). No queueing for an officer — just scan your passport, give fingerprints, and you're through. Look for the 'e-gates' or 'Automated Clearance' signs.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, make sure your passport has 6+ months validity and at least 1 blank page. Book your return/onward ticket and optionally print a copy. Fill out the SG Arrival Card online (search 'ICA SG Arrival Card') no more than 3 days before your flight. Save the confirmation.
2
Arrive at Singapore Changi Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrival Immigration'. Have your passport and SG Arrival Card confirmation ready (phone or print). Australian passport holders can use the automated e-gates (scan your passport, fingerprint, then gate opens) — no need to see an officer. If the e-gates are unavailable or you prefer manual, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue.
3
Immigration counter
Hand over your passport and (if asked) your return ticket. The officer may ask your hotel name and how long you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and permitted stay (usually 90 days). Keep this stamp visible.
4
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim (check the board for your flight carousel). Then head to 'Customs' — green channel if nothing to declare. You're now officially in Singapore.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, you can apply for an extension at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) before your 90 days expire. The maximum extension is usually 30 additional days, but that's at ICA's discretion. Visit ICA Building (10 Kallang Road) in person, or apply online via the e-Service for extension. There's no fee for the extension application itself. You should apply at least 10 days before your current stay ends. Extensions beyond 90 days are rare and require strong reasons (e.g., medical treatment).
If you need to stay longer for work or study, you'll need a proper visa or pass before you travel. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism and short business visits only. For anything else, check with the Singapore Ministry of Manpower or ICA well in advance.
No, Australian passport holders do not need a visa for transit in Singapore, even if you leave the airport. You can enter visa-free for up to 90 days, which covers any transit period. Just ensure you meet the entry requirements (passport validity, onward ticket, SG Arrival Card).
Yes, visa-free entry is per arrival. If you leave Singapore and come back the same day, you'll get a new entry stamp with a fresh 90-day stay. However, immigration may question frequent short trips. It's fine for normal travel.
Overstaying is taken seriously. The penalty is a fine of up to SGD 1,000, and you may be barred from re-entering Singapore. In severe cases, caning or imprisonment. Always leave before your 90 days are up, or apply for an extension before it expires.
Yes, since 2021, all visitors must submit the SG Arrival Card electronically within 3 days of arrival. It's free. You can do it on the ICA website or via the MyICA Mobile app. You'll get a confirmation with a QR code — save it on your phone or print it. Immigration officers may ask to see it, though they can look it up in their system. It's still best to have it ready.
There are no mandatory vaccinations for Australian travellers entering Singapore, except yellow fever if you've recently visited a country with risk (not Australia). However, it's wise to be up-to-date on routine vaccines. No COVID-19-related entry restrictions as of 2026.
