Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Canadian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Chile. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Chilean immigration, but airlines may ask for at least 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Chile
Immigration officers at Santiago (SCL) routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — a bus ticket to Argentina or a flight to another country also counts.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from a host ready to show.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Chilean immigration can ask to see bank statements, credit cards, or cash. A reasonable daily budget of around $50–$100 USD per day is a safe benchmark. Having a credit card and a recent bank statement on your phone usually satisfies the officer.Recommended
Tourist card is not extendable
You cannot extend your 90-day stay. If you need more time, you must leave Chile before the card expires and re-enter, or apply for a different visa beforehand.
Keep your tourist card safe
You must return this card when you leave Chile. Losing it means a trip to the Policía Internacional office at the airport before your flight.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Santiago (SCL) or any other airport, join the 'Extranjeros' line. Hand over your passport and return ticket if asked. The officer will stamp your passport and give you a tourist card (Tarjeta de Turismo) valid for up to 90 days.
2
Keep your tourist card safe
You must return this card when you leave Chile. If you lose it, you'll need to get a replacement at the Policía Internacional office before departure.
3
Exit through customs
After immigration, collect your bags and walk through the green (nothing to declare) or red (goods to declare) channel. Standard procedure.
