Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Canadian passport needs to be valid only for the time you plan to stay in Cyprus. Airlines sometimes ask for 6 months validity, but Cyprus immigration does not enforce that rule.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cyprus
Immigration officers at Larnaca and Paphos airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within 90 days.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a recent bank statement or credit card ready. Cyprus does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but showing access to at least €50 per day is a safe bet.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Cyprus. Airlines check this before you board. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before your trip.
Cyprus is not in the Schengen Area
Even though Cyprus uses the same 90/180-day rule, it's not part of the Schengen zone. Your 90 days in Cyprus are separate from any time spent in Schengen countries.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at passport control
At Larnaca or Paphos airports, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready. The officer will ask your purpose and length of stay.
2
Present documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation booking. The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's no separate visa or registration step for Canadians.

Frequently asked questions

Up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This is the standard Schengen-area rule, even though Cyprus is not in Schengen. Overstaying can lead to fines or a ban.
No. The visa-free stay is not extendable for tourism. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a long-stay visa or residence permit before your 90 days expire.
No. Canadians transiting through Cyprus (staying airside) don't need a visa. If you need to enter the country, the same visa-free rules apply.
You may be denied boarding or entry. Airlines check this before departure. Renew your passport before you travel — it's the most common reason Canadians get turned away.
Not routinely, but immigration can ask. Have a credit card or bank statement handy. A reasonable daily budget (€50–€100 per day) is usually enough if asked.
Tourist visa-free entry does not permit any work, including remote work for a foreign employer. Cyprus has a separate Digital Nomad Visa if you plan to work while staying longer.
You risk a fine, deportation, and a re-entry ban. Overstays are taken seriously. If you need more time, leave before day 90 or apply for a proper visa.
