German passport holders need an eVisa to enter Cuba in 2026. The eVisa is straightforward to obtain online and covers tourism visits. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from your entry date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Cuban tourist eVisa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Havana Airport will stamp it on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your German passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Cuba. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Cuban law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Cuban immigration strictly enforces the requirement for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or digital confirmation ready — they will check it before you reach the passport control booth.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Carry a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host (carta de invitación). Immigration rarely asks, but having it ready avoids delays if questioned.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Have at least €50–€100 per day in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. Cuba has limited card acceptance for foreign cards, so bring enough cash in euros or US dollars.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If you have less than 6 months from your entry date, you won't be allowed to board. Double-check before you go.
Bring cash — cards are unreliable
Credit and debit cards from US banks rarely work in Cuba. ATMs are scarce. Bring enough euros or US dollars in cash for your entire stay. Exchange at official CADECA offices for the best rates.
