German passport holders need an eVisa to enter Uganda. Apply online before you travel — there's no visa on arrival for tourism. As of 2026, the process is straightforward if you have your documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Required before travel
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before departure. The eVisa is valid for 90 days from issue and allows a single entry. Processing takes 2–3 business days, so apply at least a week ahead.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from your intended departure date from Uganda. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
While not always checked, having a hotel booking or invitation letter with a local address can speed up the immigration process. Print the confirmation or save it on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Officers may ask how you plan to support yourself during your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $500 USD equivalent.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Uganda, not from when you leave. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.
Keep your eVisa accessible offline
Save a PDF of your eVisa approval on your phone and take a printed copy. Internet at Entebbe Airport can be patchy, and you don't want to rely on loading the email.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, fill in the application form, upload a passport photo and your passport data page, and pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing usually takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive and save your eVisa
You'll get an approval email with a PDF. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. Immigration at Entebbe Airport will ask to see it.
3
Arrive at Entebbe Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa/Immigration'. Join the queue for 'eVisa holders'. Present your passport, eVisa approval, and return ticket. You'll get a stamp and can proceed to baggage claim.
4
Prepare for possible questions
Immigration officers may ask about your accommodation and travel plans. Have your hotel booking and onward ticket ready to show. Answer calmly — it's routine.

Frequently asked questions

A single-entry tourist eVisa costs about $50 USD. You pay online during the application. There's also a multiple-entry option for $100 if you plan to leave and re-enter Uganda.
Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. Some applications are approved in 24 hours, but don't count on it.
No, Uganda no longer offers visas on arrival for tourism. You must have an approved eVisa before you travel. The only exception is for certain diplomatic or official travel.
The standard tourist eVisa allows a stay of up to 90 days. The exact duration is decided by the immigration officer at the border, but 90 days is typical for German passport holders.
Yes, you can apply for an extension at the Uganda Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control in Kampala. Extensions are granted in 1–3 month increments and cost around $50–$100. Apply before your current visa expires.
Yes, Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. Germany is not a risk country, but if you've traveled to any endemic area within 6 months before Uganda, you'll need the certificate. It's a good idea to get the vaccine anyway — it's valid for life.
Rejections are rare for German citizens with complete applications. If rejected, you'll get a reason (e.g., missing documents). You can reapply with corrected info. There's no appeal process, but you can contact the Uganda embassy in Berlin for help.
