Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az at least 3 working days before departure. The eVisa is a single-entry permit valid for 30 days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. Airlines may ask for at least 3 months validity beyond your departure date — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel confirmation or a notarized invitation letter from your host in Azerbaijan. Officers may ask for it at passport control.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least $50 USD per day of stay available in cash, card, or bank statement. Border officers rarely check this for short visits, but it helps to have proof.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Azerbaijan, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.
eVisa is single entry only
The standard eVisa allows one entry. If you leave Azerbaijan (even for a day trip to Georgia), you'll need a new visa to re-enter.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Azerbaijan eVisa portal (evisa.gov.az). Fill in your passport details, travel dates, and upload a passport-style photo. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) with a credit card. You'll receive a confirmation email.
2
Wait for approval (3 business days)
Most eVisa applications are processed within 3 business days. You'll get the approved visa as a PDF by email. Print it out and save a copy on your phone.
3
Arrive at the airport in Azerbaijan
At Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport, head to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. The whole process takes about 5–10 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's nothing else to fill out.
