Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for French passport holders, but some airlines may still ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
You may be asked where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers rarely ask, but having a bank statement or credit card showing available funds of at least 20,000 TWD covers you if questioned.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If your passport expires within 6 months of your entry date, you will not be allowed to board. Double-check before you leave.
No visa needed, but have proof of onward travel
Immigration officers may ask to see your return or onward ticket. Keep a digital copy on your phone or a printed copy in your carry-on.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date), book your return/onward ticket, and arrange first-night accommodation. Save digital copies on your phone.
2
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or Kaohsiung (KHH)
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Join the queue for visa-exempt travellers. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
The immigration officer will scan your passport, take your fingerprints (index fingers), and may ask: 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?', 'What's your purpose?'. Answer clearly and briefly.
4
Receive entry stamp and collect luggage
You'll get a stamp in your passport showing your entry date and allowed stay (90 days). Proceed to baggage claim and customs.
