Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Singapore. No minimum validity period beyond your departure date is required by Singapore immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Singapore
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel — a return ticket, a flight out to another country, or a ferry/bus ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. This is checked at check-in and at the border.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel confirmation, or a letter of invitation from your host in Singapore. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have access to at least 1,000 SGD (or equivalent in foreign currency) for a short stay. A bank statement, credit card, or cash works. Officers rarely check, but it's a formal requirement.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding. If you're even a day short, you'll be turned away. Renew early.
Automated clearance for UK passports
Changi Airport has automated immigration lanes for biometric passports. UK passports with the chip symbol work. You'll be through in under a minute — no queue, no officer interaction.

What happens at the border

1
Submit SG Arrival Card
Up to 3 days before you fly, go to the ICA website or download the 'SG Arrival Card' app. Fill in your passport details, flight info, and accommodation. You'll get a confirmation email — save it or screenshot it.
2
Arrive at Changi Airport
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' after you deplane. Join the queue for automated lanes if your passport has the biometric symbol — most UK passports do. Scan your passport, look at the camera, and you're through in under a minute.
3
Collect baggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, pick up your luggage from the carousel. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. If you're carrying more than SGD 20,000 in cash or dutiable goods, use the red channel.

Frequently asked questions

British passport holders get up to 90 days per visit. The exact duration is stamped in your passport on arrival. Don't overstay — fines and bans apply.
Yes, but you need to apply to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) before your current stay expires. Extensions are granted in 30-day increments, usually for a fee of SGD 40. You'll need a valid reason, like medical treatment or a family emergency. Overstaying without approval can lead to fines or deportation.
No. If you're connecting to another flight and staying airside (not passing through immigration), you don't need a visa. If you want to leave the airport during a layover, you can enter visa-free as a British passport holder.
You will likely be denied boarding by your airline or refused entry by Singapore immigration. Renew your passport before you travel. There are no exceptions for UK passport holders.
Yes. It's a legal requirement for all travellers entering Singapore. You submit it online up to 3 days before arrival. It's free and takes about 5 minutes. Without it, you may face delays at immigration or be denied entry.
Technically, no. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short social visits. If you're working remotely for a foreign employer, it's a grey area. Singapore doesn't actively enforce it for short stays, but officially you're not allowed to work — even remotely — without a work pass.
Report the loss immediately to the nearest police station and get a police report. Then contact the British High Commission in Singapore (100 Tanglin Road) for an emergency travel document. You'll need a new passport or emergency document to leave the country.
