Indian passport holders need a visa before traveling to Argentina. There's no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option — you'll have to apply at an Argentine embassy or consulate in India. Processing takes 10–15 business days. As of 2026, the standard tourist visa allows a stay of up to 90 days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Visa required – no exceptions
You cannot enter Argentina without a visa sticker in your passport. Airlines will check this at check-in. If you don't have a visa, they will deny boarding. Even if you are connecting through a third country, you still need your Argentine visa ready beforehand.
Apply early – appointments fill up
Argentine consulates in India often have limited appointment slots, especially during peak travel seasons (November–March). Start the process at least 6–8 weeks in advance. Check the embassy website regularly for new slots or cancellations.
Possible visa-free travel with valid US visa?
If you hold a valid US B1/B2 visa (or a Schengen visa), you may be eligible for the Argentine 'Electronic Travel Authorization' (AVE) system. However, this is only available to Indian passport holders who have a valid US visa that has been used at least once. The AVE can be applied online and is faster. Check the official Argentine migration website for current eligibility – this is not a guarantee.

What happens at the border

1
Gather your documents
Collect all required documents listed above. Make photocopies of everything — original plus one set of copies. Check the specific Argentine embassy/consulate website for any additional requirements (some ask for a cover letter or police clearance).
2
Complete the online application
Go to the Argentine visa application portal (check the official embassy website for the current URL) and fill out the visa application form. Print the confirmation page with the barcode.
3
Book an appointment
Contact the Argentine embassy in New Delhi or the consulates in Mumbai or Kolkata (depending on your jurisdiction) to schedule a personal appointment. Walk-ins are usually not accepted. Expect to wait a few days to a week for a slot. You must apply in person; postal applications are not accepted.
4
Attend the visa interview
Show up at the appointed time with all your documents, the printed application, and fee receipt. Pay the fee if not already done. They'll take fingerprints and a digital photo. Answer questions about your trip honestly.
5
Wait for processing
Processing takes 10–15 business days. You can track the status online. Once approved, you'll be told to collect your passport with visa sticker. Some consulates offer courier service for an extra fee.
6
Travel to Argentina
When you enter Argentina at any airport (usually Ezeiza in Buenos Aires), immigration will check your visa, passport, and might ask for return ticket and proof of accommodation. Keep a copy of your visa separately.

Frequently asked questions

Typical processing time is 10–15 business days from the date of your appointment. Some applications take longer if additional documents are needed. Apply at least 3–4 weeks before your planned departure.
No. There is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa for Indian passport holders. You must obtain a visa at an Argentine embassy or consulate before you travel. If you show up without a visa, you'll be denied entry.
The visa fee is approximately 150–200 USD (roughly ₹12,000–17,000 Indian rupees at 2026 exchange rates). Fees are set in USD and may change without notice. Always check the exact amount on the official embassy website. The fee is non-refundable even if the visa is refused.
The Argentine Embassy in New Delhi handles most applications. There are also Consulates in Mumbai and Kolkata. Which one you apply to depends on your state of residence. Check the embassy website for jurisdiction details. You must apply in person; postal applications are not accepted.
The standard tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and allows a single entry. You can stay up to 90 days per entry. Extensions are not possible — the visa is marked 'non-extendable'. If you need a longer stay, you'd have to leave and re-enter with a new visa.
Travel insurance is not a mandatory requirement for the visa application, but it's strongly recommended. Argentina's healthcare system can be expensive for visitors. If you have pre-existing conditions, make sure your policy covers them. Some consulates may ask for it as proof of means, but it's not in the standard list.
If your application is refused, the fee is not refunded. You can reapply after addressing the reasons for refusal (e.g., insufficient funds, unclear itinerary). There is no formal appeal process. It's wise to ensure all documents are complete and truthful before applying.
