Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your 180-day stay. Armenia does not require 6 months of validity beyond departure, but your airline may ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended for visa-free entry
Border officers at Zvartnots Airport may ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, rental agreement, or a host's invitation letter with their contact details ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Officers can request evidence you can support yourself. Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash (around 50,000 AMD per week) to cover your stay.Recommended
Visa-free for 180 days per year
New Zealand passport holders can stay in Armenia for up to 180 days in a calendar year without a visa. This is generous — but don't overstay. Track your days from entry.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines often check this before boarding. If your passport is close to expiry, renew it before you fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Armenian border
At Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport or any land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport to the immigration officer. They will check your passport validity and may ask about your travel plans (how long you're staying, where you're staying). Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. No visa sticker is needed. The stamp is your proof of legal entry. Check the stamp before walking away.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim (if arriving by air), then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel for goods over duty-free limits. Then you're free to enter Armenia.
