Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Singapore
Your New Zealand passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Singapore does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for New Zealand passport holders — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Singapore
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel at Changi Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel booking. Have a printed confirmation or a digital copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Immigration can request evidence you can support yourself during your stay. Carry a bank statement or have access to at least SGD 1,000–2,000 in cash or credit.Recommended
Automated immigration lanes at Changi
If you've submitted an SG Arrival Card, you can use the automated lanes at Changi Airport. Just scan your passport and follow the prompts — no officer interaction needed. It's faster than the manual queue.
Overstaying is serious
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine of up to SGD 1,000 and possible prosecution. If you realise you've overstayed, go to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) building at 10 Kallang Road immediately to regularise your status.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Changi Airport or other checkpoint
You'll go through immigration at Changi Airport (Terminal 1–4), or at the Woodlands or Tuas checkpoints if arriving by land from Malaysia. Follow the 'Foreign Visitors' signs.
2
Join the immigration queue
Join the queue for 'All Passports' or 'Foreign Visitors'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. If you have an SG Arrival Card (electronic), you can use the automated lanes at Changi — just scan your passport and follow the prompts.
3
Present your documents to the officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and onward travel. Answer clearly and honestly. They rarely ask for hotel bookings or funds, but have them ready.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 30 or 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the dates are correct.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim (if you checked bags), then go through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now in Singapore.
