Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Indonesia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Indonesia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a flight out of Indonesia within your 30-day visa-free stay. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready — they will check it before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or card for your stay
Officers can ask to see you have enough money for your trip. Carry at least USD 500 in cash or have a credit card with a visible limit — showing a bank statement on your phone works too.Recommended
Visa-free is not extendable
If you think you might stay longer than 30 days, skip the visa-free line and go for the Visa on Arrival (VoA) at the airport. VoA costs about SGD 45 and can be extended once for another 30 days. Visa-free cannot be extended at all.
Keep your entry stamp safe
The immigration officer stamps your passport with the 'Admitted Until' date. If the stamp gets smudged or is hard to read, ask the officer to re-stamp it clearly. A damaged stamp can cause problems when you leave.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Indonesian immigration
At any international airport (Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, etc.), follow signs to 'Foreign Passport' counters. Join the queue for visa-free entry — no payment needed.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport and return ticket (screenshot is fine). The officer will check your passport validity and may ask your purpose of visit. Answer briefly — 'tourism' or 'business meeting'.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp says 'Bebas Visa Kunjungan' (Visa-Free Visit) and note the 'Admitted Until' date. Keep the stamp clean and readable.
4
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your bags and walk through customs. There's a digital customs declaration form you can fill online before arrival — saves time.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a Visa on Arrival (VoA) at the airport — that costs about IDR 500,000 (around SGD 45) and can be extended once for another 30 days. VoA is available at all major airports.
You'll be fined IDR 1,000,000 (about SGD 90) per day of overstay, paid at the immigration office before departure. Overstays over 60 days can lead to detention and deportation. Don't risk it — set a reminder on your phone.
Yes, there's a digital customs declaration form (e-CD) that you can fill online up to 3 days before arrival. It's quick — just your passport details, flight info, and a few questions about goods. Fill it at https://ecd.beacukai.go.id. You'll get a QR code to show at customs.
Yes, visa-free entry is valid at all international airports (Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Medan, etc.) and major land border crossings (e.g., from Malaysia at Entikong or from Timor-Leste). Sea ports also accept it — just make sure you have a return ticket.
You will be denied entry. Airlines also check this at check-in — they won't let you board. Renew your passport before traveling. Singapore passport renewal takes about 2 weeks online.
No, visa-free entry covers business visits (meetings, conferences, negotiations) as long as you don't receive a salary or work for an Indonesian company. If you're doing paid work, you need a work permit and visa.
Yes. At the airport, you can apply for a Visa on Arrival (VoA) instead of using visa-free. VoA costs IDR 500,000 (about SGD 45), allows 30 days, and can be extended once for another 30 days at an immigration office. You'll need a passport photo and cash for the fee.
