Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
6-month validity strictly enforced
Your passport must have at least 6 months of remaining validity beyond your entry date. Airlines check this at check-in and will deny boarding if it expires sooner.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration at Casablanca and Marrakech airports routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready to show.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Border officers may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Show you can support yourself during your stay — roughly 500 MAD per day. A credit card or recent bank statement works.Recommended
Overstay fine
100 MAD/day penalty
Overstaying the 90-day limit costs 100 MAD per day (about $10 USD), paid at the airport before departure. Overstaying more than 10 days triggers a ban from re-entering Morocco.Optional
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Morocco requires your passport to be valid at least 6 months beyond your date of entry. Renew your passport well ahead of time to avoid being turned away at the border.
Overstaying results in fines and possible trouble
Overstaying the 90-day limit leads to a daily fine (about 100 MAD / ~$10 per day) and may affect future entry. Set a reminder to leave before day 90. The fine can be paid at the airport before departure.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Casablanca, Marrakech, or other entry points, follow signs to 'Non-EU Passports'. The line can be long at peak hours. Have your passport open to the photo page.
2
Present your passport and answer questions
The officer will ask your purpose (tourism), how long you're staying, and where you'll stay. Answer briefly and politely. They rarely ask for additional documents.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and a note '90 days'. If given a tiny entry slip, keep it safe. It's seldom checked on exit but best not to lose it.
4
Collect luggage and proceed through customs
After immigration, collect your bags. Customs is usually a green 'nothing to declare' channel. Walk through unless you have items to declare (e.g., large amounts of cash or restricted goods).

Extensions are almost never granted for US tourists. To apply, visit the Police Department (Direction Générale de la Sûreté Nationale) in your city, but expect refusal. Leaving and re-entering does not guarantee a reset of the 90-day clock. Plan within 90 days.
You will likely be refused entry. Airlines may also deny boarding. Even if your passport is valid for your entire trip, Morocco strictly requires validity for at least 6 months from your entry date. Renew your passport before traveling.
For stays over 90 days, you must apply for a visa in advance at a Moroccan embassy or consulate in the US. These are typically for work, study, or family reunification – not for general tourism. There is no visa-on-arrival for longer stays.
No. Currently, US tourists do not need to fill out an arrival card or any online pre-registration. Simply present your passport at immigration. During health emergencies (e.g., COVID), rules may change – check before you fly.
No departure tax. Go through security and passport control as normal. If you overstayed, you must pay the fine at the airport before leaving.
No. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. If your passport expires within 6 months of your entry date, you will be denied entry. Always renew your passport well in advance.
