Australian passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Cambodia in 2026. At major airports and land borders, queue at the “Visa on Arrival” counter, pay $30–$35 in crisp US dollars, and have a passport photo ready. The visa is valid for 30 days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before departure
Apply at evisa.gov.kh at least 3 business days before travel. The eVisa costs $30 USD and is valid for a single entry up to 30 days. Print the approval letter and bring it with your passport — immigration at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports accept it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond arrival
Your Australian passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from the date you enter Cambodia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cambodia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a flight booking showing you leave Cambodia within your visa validity. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready — a bus or boat ticket out of the country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration rarely asks for it at the airport, but budget airlines sometimes request it at check-in.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks this for Australian passport holders, but carrying cash USD is practical — Cambodia is a cash-heavy economy.Recommended
Cash only – bring crisp USD
The visa on arrival counter accepts only US dollars in cash. No credit cards, no Australian dollars, no riel. Notes must be in good condition – torn, taped, or heavily folded bills will be refused. Have exact change if you can. ATMs are available landside after immigration, but you won’t have access to them before you get your visa.
Photo ready? Save the upcharge
If you arrive without a passport photo, the immigration staff will take your picture (usually with a webcam) and charge you around $5 – $10 extra on top of the visa fee. Save time and money by bringing a recent 4×6 cm photo with a white background. Even a generic photo from a booth will do.
Overstay fines add up fast
Overstaying your 30-day visa costs $10 USD per day at immigration when you leave. The fine is usually collected on exit. There are no exceptions for minor overstays. Keep track of your exact arrival stamp date and leave on time, or pay for an extension before your visa expires.

What happens at the border

1
Fill in the arrival card and visa application
On the plane or at the border, you’ll get an arrival card and a separate visa application form. Fill in both with your passport details, flight number, and hotel address. Keep them together.
2
Head to the Visa on Arrival counter
After disembarking at Phnom Penh (PNH), Siem Reap (REP), or Sihanoukville (KOS), follow signs to “Visa on Arrival” before the immigration booths. For land borders like Poipet or Bavet, look for the same counter before passport control.
3
Submit documents and pay
Hand over your passport, completed forms, photo, and cash ($30 or $35). The officer will process your visa. This usually takes 5–10 minutes at airports; it can be longer at busy land borders.
4
Collect your passport and proceed to immigration
Once the visa sticker is affixed, they’ll hand your passport back. Then join the immigration queue for a regular entry stamp. That’s it – you’re in Cambodia.

Frequently asked questions

Tourist visa on arrival is $30 USD, business visa is $35 USD. Cash only. Prices have been stable for years, but carry a little extra just in case. If you don’t have a photo, expect an extra $5–10 fee.
The standard visa on arrival grants a 30-day stay. It can be extended once for an additional 30 days at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh (or via local travel agents). Overstay fines are $10 USD per day.
Yes, at all international airports (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville) and major land borders like Poipet (from Thailand), Bavet (from Vietnam), and Cham Yeam (from Thailand). Smaller land crossings may not offer visa on arrival – use an e‑visa or get a visa in advance.
Yes, Australians can apply for an e‑visa through the official Cambodian e‑visa website (www.evisa.gov.kh). It costs $36 + processing fee, valid for 90 days from issue, and allows a single entry for up to 30 days. Processing takes about 3 business days. You still need to queue at a dedicated e‑visa lane on arrival.
Cambodian immigration does not officially require it, but your airline might. Many carriers (especially budget ones) will demand to see a return or onward ticket before letting you board for Cambodia. Best to have a cheap onward bus or flight booking just in case.
You will be denied entry. Cambodian immigration strictly enforces the 6‑month passport validity rule. Also, your airline may refuse boarding. Check your passport expiry well before your trip and renew if needed.
Yes, you can extend it once for another 30 days. The cost is around $50-$70 USD through a travel agent or at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh. The extension adds 30 days from the date of issue, not from the original expiry. Overstaying after that is $10/day fine.
