UK passport holders can visit Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days in any rolling 12-month period. No visa or fees required. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date – that's the main thing border officers check.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Armenia. Border officers at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan check the expiry date against your departure date — they do not enforce the 6-month rule for UK passport holders.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket before granting entry. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready — they check this even on visa-free entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Officers at the border rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Keep a bank statement or a credit card with a sufficient limit. Immigration officers in Armenia do not routinely check funds, but they can ask — having a statement showing at least $50 per day of stay covers you.Recommended
Overstay fines add up fast
Even a one-day overstay costs 5,000 AMD (about £10). Overstaying more than a few days can get you banned from Armenia for 3 years. Set a reminder to leave before day 180.
180 days per 12-month period, not per visit
The 180-day allowance is the total number of days you can be in Armenia in any rolling 12-month period. If you stay 180 days straight, you can't re-enter for another 180 days. Short trips add up, so keep track.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Armenia requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If it's close, renew before you go. I've seen people turned away at Yerevan airport for this.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Yerevan (EVN) or other entry point
Most visitors arrive at Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) near Yerevan. There's also a land border from Georgia and Iran. All have similar procedures.
2
Join the foreign passport queue
At EVN, look for the 'Foreign Passports' lane. Have your passport ready. The line moves quickly for UK citizens – you're not separated by nationality.
3
Present your passport and answer any questions
The officer will check your passport validity, look for a blank page, and may ask your purpose of visit, accommodation, or length of stay. Answer briefly – 'holiday' or 'business' is fine. No supporting documents needed.
4
Receive your entry stamp
A stamp is placed in your passport with the date of entry and a max stay of 180 days. Double-check the date is correct. Then collect your luggage and walk through customs – usually green channel.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is a flat 180 days per rolling 12-month period. There is no extension available for visa-free visitors. If you overstay, you'll face a fine (currently 5,000 AMD per day) and possible deportation or a ban. To stay longer, you'd need to apply for a temporary residence permit before the 180 days expire, which requires a valid reason (work, study, family).
It's not a legal requirement for UK citizens on visa-free entry, but some airlines may ask to see proof of onward travel before boarding. I always have a return ticket or a bus/train booking out just to be safe.
Overstaying costs you 5,000 AMD per day (roughly £10 per day at current rates). You pay at the border when leaving. Serious overstays can lead to a three-year entry ban. It's not worth the risk – leave on or before day 180.
No. The 180-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, short visits. Any paid work, studying full-time, or volunteering longer than a few weeks requires a proper visa or residence permit. You can attend short conferences or workshops without issues.
Yes, you can come and go as many times as you like, but the total days you spend in Armenia in any rolling 12-month period must not exceed 180. The system tracks by entry stamps. For example: enter Jan 1, stay 30 days, leave Jan 30, return Feb 10 – you still have 150 days left. It's cumulative, not reset per trip.
Border officers are strict – they will likely refuse entry. Renew your passport before traveling. If your passport has minor wear (like a creased page) you might be okay, but any significant damage (e.g., detached cover, water damage) could be a problem. Get a new passport from the UK Passport Office before you go.
If you're staying in a hotel or hostel, they do this automatically. If you're in a private apartment or with friends, you must register with the Migration Service (or online via the e‑visa platform) within 30 days of arrival. It's free and straightforward – failing to do so can lead to a fine of about 5,000–10,000 AMD when you leave.
