Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Georgia does not require 6 months of passport validity beyond your stay — your passport just needs to be valid for the entire time you're in the country. Airlines may still enforce the 6-month rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Georgia
Immigration officers at Tbilisi and Kutaisi airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $50 per day of your stay. Officers almost never check this for US passport holders, but it's good to have on hand.Recommended
360-day stay is generous but not extendable
You can stay nearly a full year without a visa, but there is no way to extend any portion of that stay. If you need more time, you must leave and re-enter, or apply for a residence permit at a Public Service Hall well before the 360 days expire.
Overstaying is taken seriously
Even a few days over the 360-day limit can result in fines (180 GEL per day up to 1,800 GEL) and a possible re-entry ban. Set a reminder to leave before your entry stamp expires, and double-check the stamped date.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border (airport or land crossing)
At Tbilisi, Kutaisi, or Batumi airports, follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreign nationals. You'll queue separately from Georgian citizens. Have your passport ready. No visa or arrival form is needed.
2
Present your passport and answer the officer’s questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit (e.g., tourism, business) and planned stay duration. Answer honestly. No supporting documents are required, but having a return ticket handy is wise.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. No separate entry card is needed. The stamp is your proof of legal entry. Check the stamped date matches your expectations before leaving the counter.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 360 days per entry without a visa – a full year minus five days. You cannot extend this period; you'd need to leave and re-enter to reset the clock.
No registration is required for US citizens under the 360-day visa-free regime. There is no 90-day registration rule. Just stay within your stamped entry date.
Overstaying violates immigration law. You may face a fine (typically 180 GEL per day, capped at 1,800 GEL) and could be temporarily banned from re-entry. Contact the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs if you've overstayed.

Legally, no. Georgia does not require US citizens to show proof of funds or a return ticket for visa-free entry. In practice, some officers may ask. It's wise to have a printed return itinerary handy.
