Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Armenia. No six-month validity rule applies here — just cover your stay dates.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers at Zvartnots Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Border officials can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. A bank statement or credit card showing access to around $50 per day is enough.Recommended
Registration required for stays over 30 days
If you plan to stay in Armenia for more than 30 consecutive days, you must register your address with the Migration Service of Armenia. Failure to do so can result in fines and complications with future entry. Hotels register automatically; for private stays, visit a Migration Service office during the first 30 days.
Overstay penalties
Overstaying the 180-day visa-free period can lead to fines of about 40,000–80,000 AMD (roughly $100–$200) and a possible one-year re-entry ban. Set a reminder to leave on time.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at passport control
At Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, follow signs for 'Foreign Passports'. Join the queue for non-Armenian citizens. Have your passport ready.
2
Present passport and get stamped
Hand over your U.S. passport. The officer will check your face against the photo, verify validity, and stamp you in. No fee, no forms. They may ask for your hotel address or return ticket. Usually takes 30 seconds per person.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim. Customs is typically a green channel for most items. You're free to go.

No. The visa-free stay cannot be extended or renewed by leaving and re-entering. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a temporary residence permit (a separate process) before the 180 days expire.
Overstaying results in fines: typically 40,000–80,000 AMD (roughly $100–$200). For excessive overstays, you may face a one-year re-entry ban. Always leave before the 180th day.
If you stay longer than 30 consecutive days, you must register your place of residence with the Migration Service of Armenia. Do this within 30 days of arrival. Hotels usually register automatically; private accommodations require you to register in person.
No. The visa-free status is for tourism, business visits, and short-term stays. Any paid work or study requires the appropriate visa or permit obtained beforehand.
You will likely be denied boarding at the airport in the U.S. or refused entry in Armenia. It's a strict requirement. Renew your passport before traveling.
Armenian border officials don't require it, but U.S. airlines often do. If you don't have a return or onward ticket, you may be stopped at check-in in the U.S. Better to have one.
