Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your UAE passport needs to be valid for at least the length of your stay in Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Azerbaijan
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready — they will check the date matches your intended stay.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Azerbaijani border officials sometimes ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number ready to show.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Officers may ask how you plan to support yourself. Carry cash (US dollars or euros are widely accepted) or have a bank statement showing enough funds for accommodation, food, and transport.Recommended
Passport validity counts from arrival
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Azerbaijan, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew before you travel.
Overstaying is expensive
Overstaying your 90-day visa-free period results in fines of about 20 AZN per day (roughly $12 USD). If you overstay by more than 10 days, you may also face deportation and a ban from re-entering Azerbaijan for up to 5 years.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport in Azerbaijan
You'll go through immigration at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku, or at land borders like the Red Bridge. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket or accommodation. You'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days.
2
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. No customs form needed for most travellers.
