Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your UAE passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in the Dominican Republic. Immigration officers at Santo Domingo and Punta Cana airports check this at the counter.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Dominican Republic
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready — budget airlines check this before boarding too.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Officers occasionally ask for proof of sufficient funds — roughly $100–$200 per day of your stay. A bank statement or credit card works.Recommended
Tourist card included in your ticket
Most airlines flying to the Dominican Republic include the tourist card fee in your ticket price. You don't need to pay separately at the airport. Check with your airline before you fly.
6-month passport rule is strict
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport has less than 6 months validity from your arrival date, you'll be denied boarding. No exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport
At Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, or any other international airport, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Extranjería'. There are usually separate lines for tourists and residents.
2
Present your passport and tourist card
Hand over your passport. The officer will issue a tourist card (usually included in your airline ticket). They may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day entry. Check the stamp before leaving the counter. If you need more time, ask about extensions before you exit.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, grab your bags and go through customs. There's a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over the duty-free limit.

Frequently asked questions

You get 30 days on arrival. If you want to stay longer, you can apply for a 30-day extension at the immigration office (Dirección General de Migración) in Santo Domingo or at regional offices. The extension costs around 1,000 DOP (about $18 USD).
No, there's no online pre-registration or arrival declaration required. You'll fill out a tourist card form on the plane or at the airport. Some airlines include it in your ticket.
No. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding by the airline or turned away at immigration.
No, it's not required for entry. But it's strongly recommended because medical costs can be high. A basic policy covering emergency medical and evacuation is cheap and gives peace of mind.
Overstays are fined. The fine is about 1,000 DOP per month or part thereof. You'll need to pay at the immigration office before leaving. It's better to apply for an extension before your 30 days are up.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. For work or study, you need a proper visa or residence permit. Working on a tourist stamp can get you deported.
Not if you're arriving directly from the UAE. But if you've been in a country with yellow fever (like Brazil or parts of Africa) within 6 days before arrival, you'll need a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
