Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in North Macedonia. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration may ask for a return or onward ticket confirming you leave North Macedonia within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines check this before boarding.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers occasionally ask for a hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Book a refundable hotel or get a signed invitation to avoid delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry enough cash or a credit card to cover your expenses — roughly €50 per day is a safe benchmark. Immigration rarely checks this, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
6-month passport validity is strictly enforced
Border officers will check your passport's expiry date against your entry date. If it's less than 6 months, you'll be refused entry — no exceptions. Renew your passport before you fly.
Keep your return ticket handy
Immigration at Skopje Airport often asks to see a return or onward ticket. A screenshot on your phone is fine, but make sure it's easy to pull up quickly. If you're continuing to another country, show that ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
You'll enter through Skopje International Airport (most common), Ohrid Airport, or a land border from Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Kosovo, or Albania. At the airport, follow signs for 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU' — there's no separate line for visa-free travellers.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and, if asked, your return ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit (tourism, business, transit) and how long you plan to stay. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — if it shows fewer days, ask politely for correction. Keep the stamp dry for a few seconds.
4
Collect your bags and exit
After passport control, pick up your luggage from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. You're now free to enter North Macedonia.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave North Macedonia before the 90 days are up and re-enter after some time outside the country. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
No, there's no registration requirement for Emirati tourists staying up to 90 days. Your hotel will handle any formalities. If you're staying in a private home, the host should register you within 24 hours — but this is rarely enforced for short stays.
You'll likely be denied entry. Border officers strictly enforce the 6-month rule. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before travelling. Emergency passports from UAE embassies may not be accepted — check with the North Macedonian embassy in Abu Dhabi.
No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or transit only. If you plan to work, study, or volunteer, you need a proper visa or residence permit. Apply at the North Macedonian embassy in Abu Dhabi before travelling.
As of 2025, there are no COVID-19 entry restrictions. No vaccination proof or testing is required. However, check for routine vaccine recommendations (like hepatitis A and typhoid) from your doctor before travel.
Overstaying even a day can result in a fine of around 50-100 euros, and you may be banned from re-entering for a period. If you realise you'll overstay, contact the local immigration office in Skopje before your visa-free period ends to discuss options.
No, the visa-free rule applies only to UAE passport holders. If you hold a different nationality, check the requirements for that passport. Your UAE residence status doesn't affect North Macedonia's entry rules.
