Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
Your passport needs at least 3 months of validity left after the day you leave the Schengen zone. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. The 90-day visa-free stay applies across all 29 Schengen countries combined, not just the Czech Republic.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Prague Václav Havel Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air also check this at the gate. A bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen country works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb reservation, or a letter from a friend you are staying with ready. Border officers rarely ask for it, but if they do and you have nothing, they can refuse entry. A simple booking.com reservation with free cancellation is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
You need to show you can support yourself — roughly 1,100 CZK (~€45) per day. A credit card with a decent limit or a recent bank statement works. I have never been asked for this at Prague airport, but Czech law requires it.Recommended
Schengen 90/180 rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the entire Schengen Area, not just the Czech Republic. Track your days carefully — overstaying can result in fines and a re-entry ban.
Register within 3 days if staying privately
If you're not in a hotel, you or your host must register with the Foreign Police within 3 working days. Hotels handle this automatically.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG) or other border
At passport control, join the 'Non-EU' queue. Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport validity, may ask about your trip purpose, accommodation, and return ticket. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with entry date and allowed stay.
2
Prepare documents for inspection
While queuing, have your passport open to the photo page. If asked, show your return ticket (screenshot or printed), accommodation booking, and proof of funds (cash, card, or bank statement). Keep them in an easily accessible pocket.
3
Receive entry stamp and proceed
After a brief check, the officer will stamp your passport. Check the stamp shows the correct date. You're now allowed to stay up to 90 days. Collect your luggage and exit customs.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended for tourism. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a long-term visa or residence permit at the Czech embassy in Argentina before traveling. Overstaying can lead to fines or a ban.
If you stay in a hotel, they register you automatically. If you stay in a private residence (e.g., with friends or Airbnb), you must register with the Foreign Police within 3 working days. Your host can do it online at the Ministry of Interior website.
The 90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen Area, not just the Czech Republic. So if you spend 30 days in France and 60 in the Czech Republic, that's your full 90 days. Track your days carefully.
No, the visa-free stay is for tourism and business meetings only. You cannot work for a Czech employer or perform paid work remotely for a foreign company while physically in the country. For remote work, you'd need a digital nomad visa (long-term visa for freelancers).
Overstaying is a violation of Schengen rules. You may be fined (typically 3,000–10,000 CZK depending on duration), banned from re-entering the Schengen Area for up to 5 years, or both. Always leave before your 90 days expire.
No, if you're transiting through a Czech airport and staying airside (not passing through passport control), you don't need a visa. But if you need to enter the country (e.g., to change airports or stay overnight), the visa-free rules apply.
By law, you must carry your passport (or a certified copy) and proof of legal stay. Police can ask for ID at any time. Keep a photocopy of your passport and visa-free entry stamp in a separate place.
