Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Kyrgyzstan. Airlines at check-in may ask for at least 6 months validity beyond your departure date — if yours is close to expiring, renew before you fly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kyrgyzstan
Immigration officers at Manas International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $50 USD per day of your stay. Immigration may ask to see it if you look underfunded or if your stay is near the 60-day limit.Recommended
60 days starts on arrival day
Your 60-day visa-free period begins the moment you receive your entry stamp. Count from that day, not from the next morning. Leaving on day 61 is an overstay.
No visa-free for work or study
The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and transit. If you plan to work (paid or unpaid) or study, you need a proper visa or work permit. Overstaying or working without authorization can lead to deportation and a ban.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Manas International Airport (Bishkek)
Most arrivals come through Bishkek's Manas Airport. After deplaning, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Kyrgyz citizens and foreigners. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (60 days). No visa sticker is applied. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave before the 60 days expire. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban. If you need more time, exit and re-enter (e.g., a quick trip to Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan) to reset the clock.
No. For stays under 60 days, there is no registration requirement. If you were staying longer (which isn't possible under visa-free), registration would be needed. Just keep your entry stamp safe.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll likely face a fine of 1,000–5,000 KGS (roughly $12–$60) and could be banned from re-entering for a period. Always leave on time or exit and re-enter if you need more days.
Yes. The visa-free policy applies at all land borders. You'll go through the same passport control process. Just make sure your passport has enough validity and blank pages. Some land crossings may have longer queues, so plan extra time.
As of 2026, there are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for entry. No health declarations are needed. However, check for routine vaccines (like hepatitis A and typhoid) recommended for Central Asia travel.
Bring US dollars or euros in cash — they're easy to exchange at banks and exchange offices in Bishkek. Argentine pesos are not accepted. Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and some restaurants in Bishkek, but cash is king elsewhere. ATMs dispense Kyrgyz som (KGS).
If you're transiting through Manas Airport and not leaving the international transit area, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to exit the airport (even for a few hours), you need to use the visa-free policy — same rules apply: passport validity, onward ticket, etc.
