Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Overstay = serious trouble
Serbia does not allow extensions. If you overstay even by a day, you risk a fine and a re-entry ban. Set a calendar reminder to leave before day 90.
Border officers may ask for proof of funds
Though not officially required, officers can ask to see you have enough money for your stay. A credit card or a bank statement showing a few hundred euros is usually enough.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
At Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport or any land border crossing, join the queue for non-EU/non-Schengen passports. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your photo, validity, and may ask about your travel plans. Answer honestly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
If everything's fine, you'll get an entry stamp in your passport. Check the date — it marks the start of your 90-day stay. Keep the stamp visible for your departure.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through the green 'nothing to declare' channel if you have no restricted goods.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Serbia (or the Schengen area) before the 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines, a ban, or both.
Your hotel or host should register you automatically within 24 hours of check-in. If you're staying in a private home, the host must do it at the local police station. Ask them to confirm it's done — you don't need to go yourself.
You'll face a fine (typically around 5,000–50,000 RSD, roughly €40–€425 depending on the length of overstay) and possible entry ban. Serbian immigration takes overstays seriously.
No. Border officers strictly enforce the 6-month validity rule. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied entry at the airport or land border.
No, as long as you stay airside (don't pass through passport control) and your connecting flight is within 12 hours. If you need to enter Serbia between flights, the 90-day visa-free rule applies.
No, it's not a legal requirement for entry. But it's strongly recommended — a hospital stay in Serbia can cost €200–€500 per day without insurance.
Technically, no. The visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits — not for employment (including remote work for a foreign company). In practice, short-term remote work is rarely checked, but it's a grey area. For long-term digital nomad stays, look into Serbia's dedicated digital nomad visa.
