Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Suriname. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Surinamese immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Suriname
Immigration officers at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within the 180-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel reservation, hostel booking, or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers occasionally ask for this at the border, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Be ready to show cash, credit cards, or a bank statement covering your stay. There is no fixed minimum amount, but having the equivalent of about $50 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Immigration officers at PBM check passport expiry dates carefully. If your passport has less than 6 months validity from your arrival date, you will be refused entry. No exceptions.
No visa, but have proof of onward travel
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration may ask to see a return or onward ticket. Have a screenshot or printed copy ready to avoid delays.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM)
Most visitors fly into Paramaribo. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' — it's a single hall with about 6 booths. Queue up, have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and write the allowed stay (usually 180 days). This takes 2–5 minutes if there's no queue.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall where taxis and car rentals are available.
