Visa on arrival
You can get a visa on arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), and other designated entry points. Have $50 USD (single entry) or $100 USD (multiple entry) in cash ready. The eVisa portal at visa.immigration.go.tz lets you apply in advance to skip the queue — processing takes about 10 days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Argentine passport needs at least one blank page for the visa sticker. Tanzania does not require 6 months of validity beyond your stay — just enough to cover your trip. Airlines at Ezeiza may still ask for 6 months, so check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers at Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready. Without one, you may be denied boarding or entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Tanzania. Officers rarely check it, but having it speeds up the visa-on-arrival process. A simple booking.com confirmation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Bring at least $200 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds. Tanzania is a cash-heavy country — you'll need USD for the visa fee anyway. Officers almost never ask, but it's a formal requirement.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash — no cards, no mobile money. ATMs are located after immigration, so you can't withdraw once you're in the queue. Bring $50 USD in cash (or equivalent) before you fly.
Keep your arrival card stub
When you enter, immigration will give you a small stub from the arrival card. Don't lose it — you'll need to hand it back when you leave Tanzania. If you lose it, expect extra questions at departure.

What happens at the border

1
Land at a Tanzanian airport or border
At Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro Airport, or Zanzibar Airport, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' after passport control. At land borders like Namanga or Tunduma, go to the immigration office before the main queue.
2
Fill out the arrival form
You'll get a small card on the plane or at the border. Fill in your personal details, flight number, and accommodation address. Keep it with your passport.
3
Queue at the visa counter
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card, and cash. The officer will process your visa — usually takes 5–10 minutes. They'll ask your purpose of visit (tourism is fine) and may ask to see your return ticket.
4
Pay the fee and get your visa sticker
Pay the $50 USD (or equivalent) and receive a full-page visa sticker in your passport. Check that the dates are correct before walking away.
5
Proceed to passport control
With the visa in your passport, join the main immigration queue. The officer will stamp you in. Keep the arrival card stub — you'll need it when you leave.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, at all major airports (Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, Mwanza, Arusha) and most land borders (Namanga, Tunduma, Sirari, Horohoro). Some small land crossings may not have visa-on-arrival facilities — stick to the main ones.
A single-entry tourist visa costs $50 USD (or equivalent in euros or Tanzanian shillings). As of 2026, this is the standard fee. Double-entry and multiple-entry visas are available but cost more — ask at the counter if you need one.
No. Cash only. US dollars are preferred, but euros and Tanzanian shillings are accepted. Bring small bills — $50 or $100 notes are fine, but exact change speeds things up.
The standard visa on arrival is valid for up to 90 days. The immigration officer will usually stamp you in for 30 or 90 days — you can ask for the full 90 if you need it. Extensions are possible at immigration offices in major cities.
Yes, if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever (including if you've transited through one). Argentina is not a yellow fever country, but if you've been to Brazil or other endemic areas recently, you'll need the certificate. Otherwise, it's not required for direct arrivals from Argentina.
Denials are rare for Argentine passport holders with valid documents. Common reasons: passport too close to expiry, no return ticket, or suspicious travel history. If denied, you'll be sent back on the next flight. To avoid this, double-check your passport validity and have your onward ticket ready.
Yes. Visit the Immigration Department in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, or Zanzibar. Extensions cost around $50 USD and can add up to 90 more days. Start the process at least a week before your current visa expires.
