Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Ukraine. Ukraine does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce their own rules — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within the 90-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border guards may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Ukraine can ask for evidence of financial means — roughly $50 per day of stay. A recent bank statement or a credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies the officer.Recommended
Check current travel advisories
Ukraine is currently in a state of war due to the Russian invasion. Travel is not recommended. If you still plan to go, check your embassy's latest safety alerts and register your trip.
Keep your passport stamp visible
The entry stamp shows your allowed stay. If it's smudged or unclear, ask the officer to re-stamp it. You'll need it when leaving.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Ukrainian border control
At any Ukrainian airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa) or land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your photo, validity, and may ask your purpose of visit and length of stay.
3
Answer questions (if asked)
Common questions: 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?', 'Do you have a return ticket?'. Answer briefly and honestly.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay period (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim (if flying), then customs. No customs declaration needed for personal items.
