Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Austrian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Brunei. No minimum validity beyond your stay is required by Brunei immigration, but some airlines may ask for 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brunei
Immigration officers at Brunei International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have your booking confirmation ready — either printed or on your phone.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel booking. A printed or digital hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Brunei covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Brunei immigration can ask for evidence you can support yourself. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 500 BND (~€350) for a short visit.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Brunei, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, you'll be turned away.
No visa needed for 90 days
Austrian passport holders get a full 90-day visa-free stay. No application, no fee, no paperwork. Just show up with a valid passport and a return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Brunei International Airport (BWN)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' — it's a single hall. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp you in — no forms to fill. The whole process usually takes 10–15 minutes.
2
Present documents at counter
Hand over your passport (open to the photo page). The officer may ask your purpose of visit, where you're staying, and for your return ticket. Answer clearly and briefly. They'll stamp your passport and you're through.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Then walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're free to leave the airport.
