Austrian passport holders can visit Belarus without a visa for up to 30 days. This rule started in 2025 and covers tourism, business, and private visits. You must fly into and out of Minsk National Airport (MSQ) — land borders don't count.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Austrian passport must be valid for the entire 30-day stay in Belarus. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Belarusian law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Belarus
Immigration officers at Minsk National Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Border officials may ask where you are staying. A hotel confirmation or a notarized invitation from a Belarusian host (if staying privately) covers this. Keep a copy on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Belarus can ask for proof of at least €50 per day of stay. A bank statement or credit card showing available funds works. They rarely check it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Land border entry not allowed
The visa-free regime only applies when flying into Minsk National Airport. If you arrive by train, bus, or car from any neighbouring country, you must have a visa. This is a common mistake that leads to denied entry.
30-day stay is strict
The 30-day period starts the day you enter Belarus. You cannot extend it, and overstaying even by a day can cause problems. Plan your departure carefully.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Minsk National Airport (MSQ)
All visa-free entries must be through Minsk Airport. Land border crossings from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, or Ukraine are not covered. After landing, follow signs to passport control.
2
Queue at passport control
Join the line for foreign passports. Have your passport, return ticket (printed or on phone), and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and how long you're staying.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (up to 30 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's nothing special to declare for most tourists. Exit into the arrivals hall.
