Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Austrian passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Belize. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Belize immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Belize
Immigration officers at Belize's international airports and land borders routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave Belize within your visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Belize. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have bank statements or cash ready to demonstrate you have enough money for your trip. Belize does not publish a fixed minimum, but around $100 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Entry stamp check
Always check the entry stamp in your passport before leaving the immigration counter. Make sure the date and allowed stay are correct. If there's an error, ask the officer to fix it immediately.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Belize requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be turned away.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Belize airport
You'll land at Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City. Follow signs to Immigration. There are usually two queues: one for Belizeans and residents, one for visitors. Join the visitor queue.
2
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport and any requested documents (return ticket, accommodation). The officer will ask a few questions — purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 30 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. If something looks off, ask.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then walk through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. If you have goods over the duty-free limit, use the red channel.
