Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Cameroon eVisa
Apply for a Cameroon eVisa at the official portal before departure. The eVisa is mandatory for Austrian passport holders — there is no visa on arrival option. Processing takes 3 to 5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Original passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Cameroon. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Yaoundé and Douala airports routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready to show.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Cameroon. Officers sometimes ask for this during entry questioning, especially if you are staying more than a few days.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or enough cash (around 500 EUR equivalent) to cover your stay. Immigration may ask how you plan to support yourself during your visit.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show your yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport — at your own expense.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa, passport, and return ticket as PDFs on your phone and in cloud storage. If you lose the printed copies, you can still show them at immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Cameroon eVisa website (evisacameroon.com). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee with a credit card. You'll receive a confirmation email with a reference number.
2
Wait for approval
Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, but can be longer. Check your email (including spam) for the approval. Print the eVisa approval document — you'll need to show it at the airport.
3
Pack your documents
Before you leave, gather: printed eVisa, passport, return ticket confirmation, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep a digital backup on your phone.
4
Arrive in Cameroon
At Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport or Douala International Airport, go to immigration. Present your passport, eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport. Expect a short queue — allow 30–60 minutes.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. There's a customs check (usually quick). Then you're free to leave the airport.
