Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Austrian passport needs to be valid only for the length of your stay in Dominica. Airlines may still ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Dominica
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation, hostel booking, or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a recent bank statement or credit card available. There's no fixed minimum amount, but showing you have at least $500 USD equivalent for a short trip covers you.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity before boarding. If you have less than 6 months left, you'll be denied boarding — even if you're just transiting. Check your passport now.
No visa fee, but have cash for incidentals
There's no visa fee for Austrian passport holders. But carry some Eastern Caribbean dollars (XCD) for taxis, snacks, or small purchases. ATMs are available at the airport and in Roseau.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), print or screenshot your return ticket, and save your accommodation booking confirmation. Also download a local eSIM or arrange a SIM card so you have data on arrival.
2
Arrive at Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM) or Canefield Airport (DCF)
Most international flights land at Douglas-Charles Airport near Roseau. After deplaning, follow signs to Immigration. There's usually one queue for all passengers — wait time varies from 10 to 30 minutes.
3
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport and, if asked, your return ticket and accommodation details. The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in. No visa fee is charged.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then proceed through Customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now free to enter Dominica.

Frequently asked questions

No. Austrian citizens can enter Dominica visa-free for up to 180 days for tourism, business, or short visits. This has been the rule since 2025.
You can stay up to 180 days per visit. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for an extension at the Immigration Department in Roseau — but extensions are not guaranteed.
You'll be denied entry. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive. Renew your passport before traveling.
Yes. Immigration requires proof of onward travel regardless of where you're staying. A return ticket or a ticket to another country is mandatory.
It's not mandatory for entry, but it's strongly recommended. Medical evacuation or a hospital stay can cost thousands of dollars. A basic policy covering medical and trip cancellation is cheap peace of mind.
Extensions are possible but not automatic. You'd need to visit the Immigration Department in Roseau before your 180 days expire. There's a fee (around 200 XCD), and you'll need a valid reason. Overstaying can result in fines or deportation.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined, detained, or banned from re-entering Dominica. Always leave before your 180 days are up, or apply for an extension in advance.
