Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Austrian passport needs to be valid for at least the length of your stay in Senegal. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Senegal
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Dakar Blaise Diagne Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having the address and booking confirmation speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to roughly 200,000 XOF (~€300) available. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, showing a recent statement or card with available credit works.Recommended
Visa-free for 90 days
Austrian passport holders can stay up to 90 days without a visa. The stay is not extendable. If you plan to stay longer, you'll need to apply for a visa at a Senegalese embassy before travel.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Dakar Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in — no forms to fill, no fee to pay. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
2
Baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel. Customs is usually a green/red channel system. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. Random checks happen occasionally.
3
Exit the airport
Once through customs, you're free to exit. Taxis and ride-hailing apps (like Yango) are available outside. Have your accommodation address ready for the driver.
