Austrian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Uganda. The process is entirely online and straightforward — you apply before you travel, and approval usually comes within a few days. As of 2026, this is the standard entry method for tourism and short visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply online at the Uganda eVisa portal before you fly. The system issues single-entry tourist visas valid for 90 days. Processing usually takes 2–3 business days, so apply at least a week ahead.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure from Uganda
Your passport needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Immigration officers at Entebbe check the 6-month rule strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Airlines check for a return or onward ticket at check-in, and immigration may ask to see it on arrival. Without one, expect to buy a ticket at the counter or face refusal.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Immigration officers sometimes ask for a hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Have a printed copy or a screenshot on your phone ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Officers may request bank statements, a credit card, or cash to show you can cover your expenses. Having at least $300–$500 in cash or a card with a decent limit usually satisfies them.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Austrian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Uganda. You must apply and receive approval before you travel. Airlines will check this before letting you board.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa approval, passport scan, return ticket, and hotel booking on your phone and in the cloud. If you lose your phone, you'll still have access.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, fill out the application form, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page, and pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive an approval email — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa approval, return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance details. Keep them in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Visitors' or 'Foreign Passports'. Hand over your passport and eVisa approval. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 2–5 minutes. Have your return ticket and hotel booking ready in case they ask.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. You're in.
