Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Albania. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines sometimes enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Albania
Immigration officers at Tirana International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have access to at least €100–150 per day of your stay, either in cash, card, or bank statement. Officers almost never check this for Bosnian passport holders, but it's a legal requirement.Recommended
Digital documents accepted
Albanian immigration accepts digital copies of your return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance. No need to print anything — just have them saved on your phone.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
The 6-month passport validity rule is not negotiable. If your passport expires sooner, you will be refused entry at the border. Check your passport well before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book a return or onward ticket. Save a screenshot of your accommodation booking and travel insurance on your phone. No need to print anything — digital copies are accepted.
2
Arrive at the border
At Tirana International Airport (TIA) or any land border crossing, join the queue for non-Albanian passports. Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport, may ask about your stay duration and where you're staying, and then stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 1-2 minutes.
3
Enter and enjoy your stay
You're allowed to stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Keep your passport safe — you'll need it for hotel check-ins and any police checks. If you overstay, you risk fines and entry bans.

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Albania (e.g., to Montenegro or Greece) and re-enter after a period outside the country. Overstaying can result in fines and entry bans.
You'll be denied entry. Albanian immigration strictly enforces the 6-month passport validity rule. Renew your passport before traveling.
Yes, immigration may ask for proof of onward travel. Have a return flight, bus, or ferry ticket booked and saved on your phone. A screenshot is fine.
No, it's not a legal requirement for visa-free entry. However, it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in Albania can be high, and without insurance you'd pay out of pocket.
Yes, all land borders are open for visa-free entry. The same rules apply — valid passport, return ticket, and proof of accommodation. Border crossings are usually quick, but can have queues in summer.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may face a fine (typically 500–1000 ALL per day overstayed, but can be higher), and you could be banned from re-entering Albania for up to a year. Always track your days.
