Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full 14-day stay in Hong Kong. Hong Kong does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline may enforce their own policy — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers at Hong Kong International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return ticket or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Hong Kong. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient for stay
Immigration may ask you to show you can support yourself during the 14 days. Have a bank statement or credit card available — no fixed amount is published, but around 3,000 HKD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Hong Kong. Airlines check this before you board. If your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
No visa extension available
The 14-day visa-free period cannot be extended for any reason. If you need more time, apply for a visa before you travel. Overstaying even by a day can cause problems.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Hong Kong residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer may ask about your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (14 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to the baggage claim area, then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no dutiable goods.
