Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Iraqi eVisa at the official portal. Processing takes a few business days — do not book flights until approved. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Iraq. Iraq does not enforce a 6-month validity rule, but airlines may ask for at least 3 months beyond your departure date.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Baghdad and Erbil airports routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds. Iraq is a cash-heavy country — credit cards are not widely accepted outside major hotels.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Bosnian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Iraq. You must apply and receive approval before your flight. Airlines check this before boarding.
Keep digital and printed copies
Print your eVisa, flight itinerary, and hotel booking. Also save PDFs on your phone. Power outages and network issues are common — paper backups save time.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to www.evisa.iq, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email.
2
Print your eVisa and pack supporting documents
Print a paper copy of the eVisa, your flight itinerary, and your hotel booking. Save digital copies on your phone as backup.
3
Arrive at an Iraqi airport
Most travellers fly into Baghdad International Airport (BGW) or Erbil International Airport (EBL). At immigration, present your passport, eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in.
4
