Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the whole time you're in Lithuania. Schengen rules don't require 6 months beyond departure, but your airline might enforce it — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Vilnius Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines check this at check-in too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host ready. Border officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need a clear address and contact.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers may ask for cash, bank statement, or credit card to prove you have at least €50 per day of your stay. Keep a recent bank statement handy.Recommended
90-day limit applies to all Schengen countries
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the entire Schengen area, not just Lithuania. If you've already spent time in France, Germany, or any other Schengen country, that counts toward your 90 days. Track your days carefully.
Border control may ask for proof of funds
Though rare, immigration officers can ask to see you have enough money for your stay. Carry a credit card or at least €50-100 per day in cash. A bank statement on your phone is usually accepted.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Arrange travel insurance and a local eSIM if you want.
2
Arrive at Vilnius Airport or Kaunas Airport
You'll go through Schengen border control. The queue is usually 10-30 minutes. Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, how long you're staying, where you're staying, and when you're leaving. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Show documents if asked
If the officer asks for proof of return ticket or accommodation, show the screenshots on your phone. They rarely ask for travel insurance or funds, but have them ready just in case.
4
Get your passport stamped
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp is legible. That stamp starts your 90-day visa-free clock. Keep the stamp safe — you'll need it when leaving.
5
Exit the airport
Once stamped, you're free to enter Lithuania. Collect your luggage if you have any, then head to your accommodation. No further checks.
