Bosnia and Herzegovina passport holders can enter Monaco without a visa for tourism or business stays up to 90 days. This policy is unchanged for 2026. Monaco is a microstate associated with Schengen, so entry rules mirror those of France.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Monaco
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Monaco. Since Monaco is a Schengen-associated microstate, the same 90/180-day rule applies across the entire Schengen zone — not per country. Airlines may ask for 6 months validity, but the official requirement is just to cover your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Monaco's port or the French border may ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines and ferries often check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Monaco. Officers rarely ask for it, but if you arrive without a clear place to stay, they may question your plans.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough funds for your stay. Monaco is expensive — expect to show at least €100–150 per day if asked. Most travellers never get checked, but the rule exists.Recommended
Monaco is not in Schengen — but entry rules are the same
Monaco is a separate microstate with an open border with France. For immigration purposes, it's treated as part of the Schengen area. Your 90-day visa-free stay counts against the entire Schengen zone, not just Monaco.
Overstaying the 90-day limit
Overstaying even by a day can lead to a fine (up to €500) and a re-entry ban. Keep track of your days using the Schengen calculator app. If you need more time, apply for a long-stay visa before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Nice Airport or Monaco heliport
Most travellers fly into Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) in France, then take a bus, train, or helicopter to Monaco. At Nice Airport, you'll go through French border control (Schengen entry). Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready.
2
Present documents at border control
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They rarely ask for proof of funds or insurance, but have them accessible.
3
Receive entry stamp
If entering via France, you'll get a Schengen entry stamp in your passport. This starts your 90-day clock. Monaco itself does not issue stamps.
4
Proceed to Monaco
After clearing French immigration, take the bus (100 or 110), train (TER from Nice-Ville to Monaco-Monte-Carlo), or helicopter (Monacair or Heli Air Monaco). No additional border checks when crossing into Monaco.

Frequently asked questions

No. Bosnia and Herzegovina passport holders can enter Monaco visa-free for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This applies to tourism, business meetings, and family visits.
No. The 90-day limit is strict for visa-free stays. To stay longer, you'd need to apply for a long-stay visa (type D) from France before you travel, since Monaco does not issue its own visas. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban from the Schengen area.
Your passport (valid 6+ months), a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation for your first night. Travel insurance and proof of funds are not always required but smart to have ready.
No. Monaco does not issue its own visas. Entry is governed by French/Schengen visa rules. If you need a visa for France, you need one for Monaco. Bosnian passport holders don't need a visa for short stays.
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. Working or studying requires a specific work or student visa, which you must apply for through the French consulate before you travel.
You still enter the Schengen area. If you dock in Monaco's port, you'll need to clear French customs and immigration at the port office. Same rules apply: passport, return ticket, accommodation. No special visa.
If you're just passing through Monaco (e.g., on a cruise stop or day trip) and you're not staying overnight, you still need to meet the same entry requirements. No transit visa is needed for Bosnian passport holders.
