Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Serbia. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Serbian law, but airlines may enforce a 3-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Serbia
Immigration officers at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. Overland crossings are less strict, but still carry proof.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying. A hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from a host with their address and phone number works. I've been asked for this at the land border from Bosnia — have it handy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Serbia does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but carrying around €50–€100 per day in cash or having a bank statement showing sufficient funds covers you. ATMs are widely available in Belgrade and Novi Sad.Recommended
90-day limit resets after 180 days
The 90-day visa-free stay is calculated within any rolling 180-day period. If you stay 90 days, you must leave for at least 90 days before returning. Keep track of your days — overstaying can lead to fines or entry bans.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport or land border
At the airport, follow signs for 'Non-EU Passports'. At land borders, join the queue for 'All Passports'. Have your passport and boarding pass or vehicle documents ready.
2
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. No visa is needed, so no extra paperwork.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. Check the stamp is legible before walking away. Keep your passport accessible for the rest of your trip.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. You cannot take paid employment or start a business. For work, you need a work permit and a D visa, arranged by your employer through the Serbian Ministry of Interior.
You cannot extend the 90-day visa-free stay. You must leave Serbia before day 90. If you need to stay longer, apply for a temporary residence permit (usually for study, work, or family reunification) at the local police station in Serbia before your 90 days expire.
If you're staying in a hotel or hostel, they will register you automatically. If you're staying with friends or family, your host must register you at the local police station within 24 hours of your arrival. This is a legal requirement, but rarely checked for short stays.
No. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Serbia. If it expires sooner, renew it before traveling. Border officers are strict about this.
No, it's not required for entry. But it's strongly recommended. A hospital stay in Serbia can cost €200–500 per day. A basic travel insurance policy costs around €10–20 for a week and covers medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and lost luggage.
Overstaying is a violation of Serbian immigration law. You may be fined (around €50–200), banned from re-entering Serbia for up to 1 year, or both. The fine is usually paid at the border when leaving. Avoid overstaying by tracking your days carefully.
Yes. There are several border crossings, including at Bajina Bašta, Zvornik, and Šid. The process is the same as at the airport — no visa needed, just your passport. Expect possible delays during peak travel times.
