Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination (the yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport at your own expense.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your e-visa, passport, and hotel booking as PDFs or screenshots on your phone. Also email them to yourself. If you lose your printed copies, you'll still have access.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official DR Congo visa website (visa.gouv.cd). Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $100–$150 depending on visa type) with a credit card. You'll receive a confirmation email within a few days.
2
Prepare your documents for the airport
Print or save on your phone: the e-visa approval email, your return ticket, and your hotel booking. Have your passport ready. At N'djili Airport in Kinshasa, go to the immigration counter, present your passport and e-visa, and they'll stamp you in. The process usually takes 10–15 minutes if your paperwork is in order.
3
Arrival and immigration
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa Control'. Hand over your passport and e-visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. Once approved, you'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days (check your specific visa). Collect your luggage and proceed to customs.

The fee varies by visa type. A single-entry tourist visa typically costs around $100–$150. You pay online with a credit card during the application.
You will be denied entry. Renew your passport before applying for the e-visa. The 6 months are counted from your date of arrival in DR Congo.
Yes. DR Congo requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 9 months old. Carry your International Certificate of Vaccination (the yellow card) — immigration may ask for it.
Extensions are possible but not guaranteed. You'd need to visit the immigration office in Kinshasa before your visa expires. The process can be slow and bureaucratic. It's easier to apply for a longer visa upfront.
