Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Indian eVisa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure. Fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical). Approval usually arrives within 72 hours — print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Belgian passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from India. Immigration at Delhi and Mumbai checks this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel — a return ticket or a ticket to your next destination. Airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass in Brussels.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in India ready. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a pre-booked itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Carry enough funds for your stay — around $50–$100 USD per day is a safe benchmark. Immigration rarely asks, but having a bank statement or credit card handy avoids delays.Recommended
eVisa is not extendable
Once your eVisa expires, you must leave India. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban on re-entry. Plan your trip within the 90-day limit.
Keep digital copies handy
Save your eVisa PDF, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation on your phone. Airport Wi-Fi can be spotty, so download them before you fly.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html. Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around €80–€100 depending on duration). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive eVisa approval
You'll get an email with your eVisa attached as a PDF. Print it or save it on your phone. The eVisa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue for tourism, or up to 1 year for business/medical.
3
Arrive at Indian immigration
At the airport, go to the 'Foreigners' or 'eVisa' counter. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. They'll stamp your passport with your entry date. No separate visa sticker is added.
4
Complete arrival formalities
After immigration, collect your luggage and proceed to customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Keep your passport and eVisa handy until you exit the airport.
