What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Afghan eVisa portal (evisa.mfa.af), create an account, fill in the application form, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee. Processing typically takes 3–5 business days, but apply at least 2 weeks before your trip to be safe.
2
Receive your eVisa by email
Once approved, you'll get a PDF eVisa via email. Print it out — you'll need a paper copy to show at check-in and at Afghan immigration. Keep a digital backup on your phone too.
3
Arrive at Kabul International Airport
At Kabul (KBL), go to the immigration hall. Present your passport, printed eVisa, and any supporting documents. The officer will check your details, stamp your passport, and let you through. Expect a security screening before and after immigration.
4
Register with local authorities (if staying long-term)
If you plan to stay more than 30 days, you must register with the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the local police station. This is a legal requirement — failing to register can lead to fines or deportation.
