Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get a visa on arrival at any international airport in Bangladesh. Pay the fee in USD (around $51 for a 30-day single entry) — bring exact cash. Have a printed copy of your hotel booking and return ticket ready for the visa counter.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond departure
Your Bulgarian passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your departure date from Bangladesh. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Dhaka airport ask for a confirmed onward ticket before issuing the visa on arrival. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone. A same-day onward booking to a third country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
The visa on arrival counter may ask for a hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Bangladesh. A printed booking confirmation from Booking.com or Agoda is fine. If staying with friends, get a scanned invitation letter with their address and phone number.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks this for short stays, but it helps if asked. ATMs in Dhaka accept Visa and Mastercard but have withdrawal limits.Recommended
Cash only for visa on arrival
The visa fee must be paid in cash (USD, EUR, or GBP). No cards, no mobile payments. ATMs are available only after you clear immigration — too late. Bring enough cash for the fee plus a buffer.
Visa on arrival is not guaranteed
Immigration officers have discretion to deny entry. Having all documents ready (return ticket, hotel booking, sufficient funds) greatly reduces the risk. If you're nervous, apply for an e-visa in advance — though it's not required.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) in Dhaka
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' — it's a separate counter before immigration. Have your passport, return ticket, and hotel booking ready.
2
Fill out the visa application form
You'll get a small form to complete. It asks for basic info: name, passport number, address in Bangladesh, purpose of visit. Fill it in while queuing.
3
Pay the visa fee
Hand over your passport, form, and fee at the payment counter. They accept USD, EUR, or GBP cash. Keep the receipt.
4
Get your visa sticker and proceed to immigration
An officer will stamp the visa into your passport. Then head to the regular immigration queue. Show your passport with the new visa and your boarding pass. You're in.
