Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Bulgarian passport needs to be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Kyrgyzstan. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Kyrgyz immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kyrgyzstan
Immigration officers at Manas International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
You may be asked to show where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel. A printed booking confirmation or a letter from a host with their address works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Border officers can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $50 USD per day.Recommended
60 days is generous — but don't overstay
The 60-day visa-free period starts the day you enter. Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine (around 1,000 KGS per day) and a possible entry ban. Set a reminder on your phone.
No visa, no fee, no hassle
Bulgarian passport holders get a full 60 days visa-free. No application, no payment, no embassy visit. Just show up with a valid passport and a return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Manas International Airport (Bishkek)
Most Bulgarian travellers fly into Bishkek. After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Kyrgyz citizens and foreigners. Join the foreigner line.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and the immigration officer will check your validity and blank page. They may ask for your return ticket. Have it ready on your phone or printed.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with a 60-day visa-free entry. No fee, no form. This takes about 30 seconds. Check the stamp says '60 days' before you walk away.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Walk through the green channel unless you have goods to declare.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a visa at a Kyrgyz embassy before your trip. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
For stays under 60 days, no registration is required. If you somehow get a longer visa, you'd need to register within 5 days at the State Registration Service. But for visa-free Bulgarian travellers, just enjoy your trip.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before you travel.
Yes, the same visa-free policy applies at all land border crossings. Just have your passport and return ticket ready. Border guards may ask more questions at land crossings, so be prepared to show your onward plans.
No need — you get visa-free entry for 60 days. There's no visa on arrival because you don't need a visa at all. Just show your passport.
The local currency is the Kyrgyzstani som (KGS). US dollars are widely accepted for exchange, and some hotels accept dollars directly. Euros are less common. Bring crisp, new US dollar bills for the best exchange rate. ATMs are available in Bishkek and major towns.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry. Routine vaccines (MMR, tetanus, etc.) are recommended. Hepatitis A and typhoid are advised if you're eating street food or staying in rural areas. No yellow fever vaccine required unless you're coming from an endemic country.
