Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Bulgarian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Rwanda. Immigration officers at Kigali International Airport check this at the visa-on-arrival counter.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Rwanda
Immigration at Kigali Airport asks for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Airlines boarding in Sofia or connecting through Addis Ababa or Nairobi also check this before issuing your boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel confirmation ready. If staying with friends, a letter of invitation from your host with their address and phone number works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to funds. Immigration rarely asks for this for a 30-day stay, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine recommended
While not mandatory for direct travel from Bulgaria, some travellers have been asked for proof of yellow fever vaccination at Rwandan immigration. Getting the vaccine before you go avoids any hassle.
Visa-free entry — no application needed
Bulgarian passport holders can enter Rwanda for up to 30 days without any visa. No online form, no fee, no embassy visit. Just show up with a valid passport and your return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport is valid for 6+ months beyond your entry date. Book your return/onward ticket and first night's accommodation. Print or screenshot confirmations. Get travel insurance and an eSIM if you want data on arrival.
2
Arrive at Kigali International Airport (KGL)
Most flights land at Kigali International Airport. Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready.
3
Present documents at immigration
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will check your visa-free eligibility, stamp your passport, and let you through. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Exit into the arrivals hall.
