Cash only — no cards, no ATMs

Single entry vs multiple entry
If you plan to leave Tanzania and come back (e.g., a safari in Kenya then return to Zanzibar), get the multiple entry visa for $100. The single entry visa ($50) only allows one entry.

Arrive at immigration
At Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro Airport, or Zanzibar Airport, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters. These are separate from the regular immigration queues.

Fill out the application form
You'll be given a small form to complete — name, passport number, flight details, accommodation address. Fill it in while queuing to save time.

Pay the visa fee
Hand over your passport, completed form, and cash (USD). The officer will process payment and issue a receipt. Keep the receipt — you may need it when leaving.

Receive your visa sticker
The visa is a sticker placed in your passport. Check that the dates and your name are correct before walking away. Single entry is valid for up to 90 days.

Proceed to passport control
