Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Bulgarian passport only needs to be valid for the period you plan to stay in Ukraine. Airlines rarely check the 6-month rule for this route, but carry a printed copy of your flight itinerary just in case.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration at Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a bus or train ticket out of Ukraine also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers rarely ask for it, but having a hotel confirmation or a letter from a Ukrainian host speeds things up. Airbnb bookings are accepted.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Ukraine does not enforce a minimum cash amount, but carrying a credit card and a bank statement showing at least €50 per day covers you if questioned.Recommended
Check current travel advisories
Ukraine remains in a state of war. Before booking, check your government's travel advisory for the latest safety information. Some regions may be closed to foreigners or have restricted access.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save photos of your passport, visa (if any), return ticket, and accommodation booking in a secure cloud folder. If your phone is lost or stolen, you'll have backups.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Print or save digital copies of your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance. Keep them in a separate folder on your phone or in your carry-on.
2
Arrive at Ukrainian border control
At any airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa) or land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and length of stay.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay period (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the booth.
4
Exit within 90 days
Count your days from the entry stamp. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban. If you need to stay longer, apply for an extension at the Migration Service before your 90 days expire.
