Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Uganda eVisa
Apply online before travel
You need an eVisa to enter Uganda. Apply at the official Uganda eVisa portal at least 2 weeks before your trip — processing can take 5-10 business days. The single-entry tourist visa costs $50 USD, and you'll upload a passport photo and your passport data page.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6+ months validity
Your Bulgarian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Uganda. Immigration at Entebbe checks this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport will ask to see a confirmed return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Budget airlines like Jambojet and Uganda Airlines check this at check-in too — don't arrive without one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host ready. Immigration sometimes asks for it, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Carry a bank statement or a credit card showing you have enough funds for your trip. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, $200–$300 USD per week is the informal benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Bulgarian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Uganda. You must have an approved eVisa before you travel. Airlines will check this before you board.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Uganda, not from when you leave. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Uganda eVisa portal (visas.immigration.go.ug). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 USD for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit or debit card. Submit and wait for approval — typically 2–5 business days.
2
Print your eVisa approval letter
Once approved, you'll receive an email with an approval letter. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at the immigration counter when you arrive.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (or land border)
Most travellers fly into Entebbe. At immigration, present your passport, printed eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. The process usually takes 10–20 minutes. If arriving by land (e.g., from Kenya or Rwanda), the same rules apply at the border post.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no baggage check unless you're carrying something unusual. Then you're free to leave the airport.
